The weekend of September 9, 2006, Tracy and I decided to trek into Colorado for some hiking.
We planned on backpacking in the Flat Tops Wilderness, and doing a nice big loop from
Trapper's Lake (Google Map) up by Wall Lake. We hit the trail, though, and after about 3
miles and at about 9500 feet of elevation we hit some good winter weather. It sleeted on us for
over 30 minutes, and it got very cold and very wet and muddy. So we chickened out and
headed back to the car. Of course, that still took most of the day, so on Sunday we headed
out to the Mt Zirkel Wilderness, and hiked up to Gold Creek Lake. The Flat Tops and Mt Zirkel
trails were both outstanding, and being in Colorado for the weekend reminded us both how
much we miss it. Colorado is just greener and has a lot more mountains than Utah...and it's so
nice.
