On April 2, 2006, Tracy and I decided to try an early spring trip to the High Unitas. I didn't have
a lot of faith that we would be able to make it very far, so I picked a trail that started from a
paved road...that wasn't Hwy 150. So we headed up to Moon Lake (Google Map). We
actually made it to within almost a mile and a half of the lake before the snow got too deep. So
we parked the truck and hiked up to the lake. Once at the lake I promptly fell into the not-
quite-frozen lake, but I didn't get too wet, so it wasn't a problem. We hiked around, but we
didn't push on to the trailhead, because the snow was still pretty deep and we hadn't brought
our snowshoes. On our way back we had to help get a couple unstuck from the snow...they
had tried to drive further than we did and didn't work out very well for them. Other than that,
we learned that the first weekend in April was still too early to even think about hiking the
Uintas...which I expected, I was just hoping...
