backpacked up to Stratton Bald (Google Map) on the Tennessee and North Carolina state

line...I think most of the bald is in North Carolina, but the trail runs the state line.  Chris and I

tried to explore the trail that runs down the east side of the mountain, because it's not mapped

and I've always wondered where it went.  We didn't make it to the end, though, because it got

dark on us.  But the trail was really steep, and I'm not sure it would be worth hiking, anyway.

As you can see from the pictures, the fog rolled in on us overnight, and that was really cool.
