On 17 Aug 08, Tracy and I did some day hiking in the Uintas. We went to the Mirror Lake Highway, but
all of the trailheads off the highway were too crowded for my tastes. So we found a trail that didn't have
anybody on it, not far from the highway. We hiked up to Haystack Lake (Google Map), and did some
cross country hiking to Rock Lake and Shadow Lake. Haystack Lake was actually really nice, with
some nice campsites. Rock Lake was a tough hike, because it was at the back end of a very large
boulder field. And Shadow Lake was really pretty, but it had a couple of people there who had hiked up
from the popular Washington Lake. All in all, considering it was an impromptu day, we actually really
enjoyed the area.
