A Spring Sunday?

The laziness of an early April Sunday floated in the air. The sun felt warm; the deep blue sky was devoid of clouds; a cool spring breeze was blowing just enough to move the lazy, immortal trees, and the grass was a vibrant green.

But the beautiful day was not a happy one. Three days had now passed since my mom was killed in a car wreck. Needless to say, I was mourning and unsure of just exactly what was happening.

Why did it have to happen to me?

For whatever reason, I found myself lying out in the front yard enjoying the beauty of the day, before leaving for my grandmother's home. As I lay thinking, I glanced down at the ground, and lo! and behold, there grew a large, green, four-leaf clover. I marveled at the minute possibilities of this, and began looking for more in the same patch of clovers. Within three minutes, I'd found another, larger, greener clover. Soon, the rest of my family was out, enviously searching for four-leaf clovers. They found none. But I, amazingly and ironically, found six more of the springtime four-leaf clovers.

It seemed to be my lucky day, but it couldn't be; I was preparing to attend my dearest soul mate's funeral in just a few, short hours. But the clovers were there. They were proclaiming that life was springing back into the world, and that the gray days would again become care-free.

Even though the dismal cloud still hung dark and thick around me, causing unbelievable grief, I was able to overcome it. The four-leaf clovers seemed to give me a little more hope...a little more insight. The feeling that, even though the situation seemed horrible and without meaning, God was actually going to have something good come out of this in the end...in the end...
